Interested in Coordinating an Epic Tour (Bet You Have Some Rad Skills Contribute)

After pouring through some really amazing applications we are stoked to announce that we have now determined the four coordinators for both NSW and Victoria bicycle tours! If you are still keen to help (and we could use it) then please contact us at info [at] otesha [dot] org [dot] au or consider joining a tour cause we would need lots of really great peeps on tour! Or check back next year...

The Otesha Project (Australia): Cycling for Sustainability has finalised our bicycle tours and are now seeking out 4 coordinators (2 for each tour) that will help us make these tours into a reality. (The entire application can be downloaded here)

Our Philosophy

We want to stress that we don't want to make this an impossible task of completing things – meaning that the health of our peeps workin with us is more important than anything....soooo...with that in mind if you were interested but think this might be to much to coordinate (talk to us) or you plain just need help along the way never fear Otesha freaks are here! Uhh that’s Ange and Shane (the Co-Directors). Yeah we see this more as a team effort so that together we can make this a reality.

The Position: Coordinator Role

We are looking for four coordinators (two for each tour) that can help us out with preparing the logistics for our two tours this year – New South Wales and Victoria (this means that you will be sharing half the work with another rad team coordinator how cool is that?). This is an opportunity to help be a catalyst in creating two amazing tours into a reality!

Through this position you will hone your communication, organising, networking skills, confidence, and help us to enable further youth empowerment among Australian youth! BOOYAH!

  • Itinerary development
    • Plan out specific route details
    • Appropriate riding distances
    • Riding dates/days
    • Presentation days/dates
    • Towns to stop in
    • Collect schools to present to (websites, etc)
    • Pencil in places for community events
    • Compiling media contacts
    • Gather and work out equipment needs for each tour in combination with Co-Directors
  • Supporting our Educational program
    • Collate general school contacts for tour participants (same as above)
  • Celebration/Community Logistics
    • Identification of exciting and inspiring community groups to engage/connect with on route (and setup special "secret" events - these are events that are a bonus to the tour where possible and not required by you)
  • General logistics
    • Facilitate participants planning of each town/city/community (ensuring that all the elements required for the tour are covered)
    • Facilitate workshop development among team members (3 or 4 workshops)
    • (Where applicable or with timing) research local opportunities for funding (i.e. Anaconda, Kathmandu, etc) or other regional opportunities
    • Assist in recruiting tour participants through networks and promotion (finding local networks, etc)
    • Assist in pre-tour workshops (we have the content and will assist you at the beginning in delivering this to the group)
    • Help to interview and determine the 15-20 rad people on the tour you are planning - oh yeah you get to be a part of that process!
    • Organise training location for first few days (food, transport, sleeping options)
    • Obtain or help to facilitate getting all the appropriate things required for each tour (working with children's check, workshop completion, etc)
    • Responding to tour members questions (with the help of the crew in Melbourne)

The Grand Finale of the Coordinator Position

It’s pretty important to note that all of this coordination work ends once the tour starts. You will help facilitate the initial training with some of the Otesha (OZ) crew from here in Melbourne. But after that you’re just like all the other rad peeps (people) on tour with no major role and helping to create a beautiful roving and educating community.

Skills to pay the bills

At Otesha (OZ) we are really about empowering youth and some of that comes directly from creating opportunities for young Australians to challenge themselves. So we have outlined a few areas that might help you out if you were part of this crew:

  • able to multi-task and definitely work with others
  • comfortable networking and speaking on the phone
  • ability to organise different aspects of a project
  • assertive, positive, confident, and friendly
  • loves to have fun
  • passionate about sustainable consumption issues (whether that’s environmental or social justice or both yo)
  • highly motivated

Compensation for Your Hard Work

So here's the low down on the position. We seriously value your contributions and spent the last little bit applying for grants to obtain funds to pay for these positions. We hope to pay all four coordinators a honorarium of $1500 for the 3 months (spread over about 6 months) work. We realise that this is very little money and hope to offset this with a great deal of help from our end to get things rolling for you. We will find out whether we are approved within three to four months on all of our applications.

What we need from you (if you are keen)

We are asking applicants to create a two page description that tells us why you would like to be on tour. Why do you want to be a coordinator? Be creative, be yourself, and do what you want to tell us what you see, what you want to change, and what you feel you can contribute to our team. This should include a detailed CV so that we can get a picture of the diversity of the peeps applying. Applications can be mailed or emailed to us which ever you prefer. WOOT WOOT!
