The Evolution of The Otesha Project (Australia)

The Otesha Project (Australia):Cycling for Sustainability, formerly known as Cycle for Sustainability (C4S), was founded in 2000 when an amazing team rode an epic 5,000 km over five months from Perth to Sydney.

The project was the brainchild of Karen McKenzie and gathered a community of up to 25 cyclists who performed Dr Seuss's The Lorax and presented workshops in schools to celebrate sustainable ways of living, sharing and gathering awareness of pressing environmental and community issues as they travelled.

A Growing Movement...

Since 2000, the organisation has facilitated a growing number of passionate tours where over 60 cyclists – now sustainability advocates – performed and presented to over 12, 000 youth!

A Name Change...

In 2008, Cycling for Sustainability was restructured to become The Otesha Project (Australia): Cycling for Sustainability. The year 2008 saw expanded programs and a record number of passionate individuals educating youth about sustainability. 30 cyclists hit the road to perform the Morning of Choices theatrical performance and interactive workshops to over 4000 youth in rural New South Wales and Victoria.

Our Inspiration

Some of our beautiful inspiration also comes from our sister project The Otesha Project, in Canada, which was developed in 2003, and has since expanded their projects to include many bicycle tours around Canada inspiring young Canadians.

Now it's your turn to help us shape what we are!
